How should an annual insurance payment be recorded in a monthly budget?
I pay some of my insurance bills once a year rather than monthly.
When maintaining a monthly household budget, what is the most useful way to record an annual payment?
For example, if an insurance bill is $1,200 and is paid once in January, should I record the full $1,200 in January, or allocate $100 to each month so that my monthly expenses reflect the true ongoing cost?
I'm interested in the budgeting/accounting approach rather than the insurance product itself.
