Why does KLM prohibit "perishable goods" in both checked baggage and hand baggage?
Checking in for a KLM flight right now, and reading through the list of prohibited items, I was surprised to find that "Perishable goods" (illustrated by a small apple and fish symbol) are prohibited from both checked baggage and hand baggage (along with explosives, ammunition, damaged batteries, gases, paint, etc.).
Do we know why perishable food is prohibited on KLM? Even if it's something silly like "we don't want to be responsible if you get food poisoning because you ate something perishable that you put in checked luggage that (duh) sat at room temp (or higher) while it was in the custody of the airline", that would only really make sense as a reason to prohibit perishable goods from checked baggage. Why on earth would they disallow bringing an apple onto the flight in my carry-on???
