How does UPC 908.2.4 apply to a bathroom with only WC and dry vented lavatory?
How does UPC 908.2.4 apply to a bathroom with only WC and dry vented lavatory?
UPC says
908.2.4 Water Closet
The water closet fixture drain or trap arm connection to the wet vent shall be downstream of fixture drain or trap arm connections to the horizontal wet vent.
In a bathroom with only a WC and dry-vented lavatory, does the following violate that rule?
There are two ways that 908.2.4 could be interpreted in this case:
The WC fixture drain connection shall be downstream of lavatory fixture drain (in which case: fail)
The WC fixture drain connection shall be downstream of any other fixture drains that rely on the horizontal wet vent for their venting (which in this case there are none, in which case: pass)
My understanding of the actual fluid dynamics at play is that the correct interpretation is #2 (because this rule is designed to stop the WC from sucking dry other wet-vented fixtures, e.g. showers, which is well explained here https://youtu.be/VXmUk3gQ5AM?si=yrgECEsbPg6W4cYf&t=1209). But a very literal reading of it suggests it's #1
