Good, safe options for mounting TV to chimney breast
Good, safe options for mounting TV to chimney breast
We have an LG 65NANO866PA 65" TV that weighs 24.5kg and a Blue Pulse Soundbar+ that weighs 6.8 kilo. We also had a Tranquil Mount TMO800A, to which both the TV and the soundbar were mounted. This mounting work was done by people recommended by the electronics store from which we bought the TV in March of 2022. It was mounted into our chimney breast, which is not used for fire (we removed the chimney on the roof anyway).
Here it is mounted and extended:
Emphasis on the had because this morning it just...fell down (no other forces on it other than the TV itself). The anchors seem to have given way. It lasted about 4.5 years.
Luckily one anchor held, barely, and the shelf below it caught the TV at just the right angle that we could remove the TV from the mount safely. There was no damage to the TV or soundbar that we can tell.
Here is a close-up of the largest hole torn by an anchor, so that you can see the material inside:

Now we're in the situation of having to consider replacing the setup, either as it was (somehow more securely) or with something new. Here are my questions:
Is it reasonable to think this was a defect in the installation (e.g. wrong anchors) and/or what sort of things would I look for to tell?
Can we install another mount in roughly the same place, in spite of the weakened material? What steps could we take to strengthen the mount points, or reinforce it somehow so that this doesn't happen again?
What alternatives are there to this particular style of mount that might be safer/better, in order to bring the TV to eye level?
