Fridge ice maker stopped making ice
Fridge ice maker stopped making ice
I have a five-year old Frigidaire French-door fridge (model FGHD2368TF8) with freezer below. It has an ice maker in the upper-left region of the fresh food area. Up until a couple days ago, it worked fine. The in-door water dispenser still dispenses water, and tries to dispense ice (the auger works), but it doesn’t make any ice.
I found the service sheet and ran through all the diagnostics: temperature sensor, water flow, tray twist, bin full sensor, etc. All check out good. But for whatever reason, it no longer seems to activate the ice-making cycle.
I've replaced the water filter, turned ice making off and back on, and even unplugged the fridge.
The only notable thing I find is that the ice tray always ends up 90° from upright, top pointing left, as if it were trying to dump out frozen cubes. Power cycling the fridge causes it to return to upright, but at some time later it'll be pointing left. Running the tray twist diagnostic also returns it to upright, but eventually it's pointing left.
Also, the little arm that comes down to sense if the bucket is full is always retracted. It comes down in the ice tray twist diagnostic as it’s supposed to, so I’m not sure if it’s supposed to always be retraced (makes sense, so you can remove the ice bucket).
There’s never any water anywhere (i.e. it’s not running water with the tray in the wrong orientation or anything like that).
I’m not sure what to try next. Frigidaire wants $350 to repair it, $175 just to diagnose it. That seems excessive.
What else can I do to diagnose the problem?
