How to get more productive when not getting much job specific training?

How to get more productive when not getting much job specific training? I work for a small MSP. Most of the work can be done from home. I work directly with the owner of the company. I feel like I could take on more work and be more productive, but he isn't enabling me to do this (or at least we haven't found a way for this to happen). I'll try to give a couple small examples: A client called in to say his printer stopped working. I tried to get information, like asked for an error message, but he wouldn't/couldn't give details and seemed to want to get off the call. I think he wasn't in the same room as the printer when he called. I asked my boss what I should do. He replied this client has a complex setup with their printer system and just to leave it for him. I asked him if I could learn about it to be more productive next time but he didn't answer. Another time a client called in about email issues. I tried to provide remote support but they weren't able to give me the address of their computer to connect to. The client commented that my boss always connected automatically with no input from them. I tried to look up their address in our system (which my boss created) but I didn't have the password to access the necessary parts. I told my boss and he gave me a couple passwords to try, which didn't work. Most systems we use my boss created himself. He basically created his own CRM and hasn't been consistent about putting information into it. He doesn't seem to want to spend much time teaching me how to use them. What should I do? I already do a mix of just handing work off to him and asking what I can help with. Should I not push the issue as long as I'm getting paid? A contributing factor to the problem is most clients have very different setups and there aren't many standards we follow. He has told me he would like me to get better with our tools and client setups. I asked if he had any resources I could use. He basically said no.
